noisy night

There's something to be said to noisy neighbors who keep us up at night — "Go to sleep!"  For those who are eternally irked and baffled by all that racket on the floor above them and what it could be, Mac Barnett and Brian Biggs' new book Noisy Night offers comical, clamorous possibilities.  The consensus after reading this one—definitely not a sleeper. ;)

interview at tee and penguin

For a look at what our bookshelves really look like (and to read some thoughts on what we do to foster a love of reading and literacy at home), head over to an interview Tee and Penguin did with me on their blog.  Thanks for having me, Sarah and Taryn!

P.S. I’m starting a new series called #whataverysreading.  I’ll post a stack of what she’s been reading lately every couple of weeks or so and would love to hear what other chapter books and middle grade books everyone is into these days.

harry and clare's amazing staycation

With no travel plans for spring break except for a long week at home, siblings Harry and Clare go on an expedition to Mars, ride "a Pasta Linguini racer around an indoor course in the supermarket," narrowly escape the grips of the Abominable Snowman and go on a treasure hunt through the jungle.  And they nosh on volcano sticks and asteroid burgers along the way.  Needless to say, they make the best of just being together.  We love how the story speaks so naturally to the dynamics of sibling relationships as well as kids' beautiful and expansive imaginations and boundless creativity.

Harry and Clare’s Amazing Staycation was written by Ted Staunton, illustrated by Mika Song and published by Tundra Books.
