Entries in christmas (25)

the night before christmas

“As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.”

It’s hard to imagine Christmas Eve without Clement C. Moore’s iconic poem.  Roger Duvoisin’s illustrations are bright, warm and enchanting.  Happy Christmas to all!

The Night Before Christmas was published by Knopf Books for Young Readers.

enid blyton's christmas stories

Today we’ve got a rainy and sullen sky out and we’ve been reading Enid Blyton’s Christmas Stories.  What is everyone’s favorite book by her?  I didn’t grow up reading Enid Blyton (only discovered her work when I got older) and am looking to buy more of her stories for Avery and Nate.   And happy first day of winter, all.

Enid Blyton's Christmas Stories was published by Hachette.

one starry night

A stunning version of the nativity story, rendered in modern lines and an earthy, nocturnal palette.

One Starry Night was written by Lauren Thompson, illustrated by Jonathan Bean and published by Margaret K. McElderry Books.

letters from father christmas

Today we’re reading the collection of letters that Tolkien wrote to his children every year—letters that came from Father Christmas at the North Pole.  Can you imagine having one of the best storytellers of all time as your father?

Letters From Father Christmas, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, edited by Baillie Tolkien and published by Harper Collins.

the reader

“The reader has a small brown dog

and a sturdy suitcase that is brown…

and a long red sled with a long, loopy rope

for pulling through deep snow.”

This sweet, snowy story is an absolute gem and is a tribute to friendship, reading, quiet moments and togetherness.  The Reader was written by Amy Hest, illustrated by Lauren Castillo and published by Amazon Children’s Publishing.
